"Strength in the Soft Edge" was created as a commissioned piece for someone I deeply admire. While every commission begins with conversations about color, scale, and space, this painting was ultimately inspired by something much more personal: her character. As I worked, I found myself thinking about the many ways she embodies strength—not through force or certainty, but through grace. As a leader in her career, she leads with empathy. As a friend, she's generous with her time and encouragement. As a mother, she's navigated life's inevitable challenges with resilience, patience, and unwavering love. The painting became less about capturing a likeness and more about honoring those qualities. The composition developed through intuitive layers, allowing softness and structure to coexist. Gentle transitions, textured surfaces, and expressive marks reflect the complexity of a life that's been shaped by both joy and hardship. To me, this painting is a reminder that the strongest people are often the ones who choose compassion over control, openness over perfection, and kindness even when it isn't easy.
